President Mearns Announces New Virtual Program: Ball State Plus

MUNCIE, Ind.- Ball State University President Geoffrey Mearns announced a new virtual program, “Ball State Plus,” which gives viewers a peek inside the university.

The series premiere episode, “State of Ball State,” was hosted by award-winning journalist and BSU alumnus Sandra Chapman, featuring BSU’s head men’s and women’s basketball coaches. Tonight’s episode dealt with changes at the university over the past few years and those to come.

President Mearns says they are building “one of the nicest outdoor amphitheaters in all of central Indiana so we can have outdoor shows.” There are also plans to build a performing arts center on The Village.

The recent construction is not the only thing that helps the university flourish; these are also the contributions of the elders. President Mearns expressed his gratitude to the alumni who helped make this possible.

“The campus facilities were just part of what made Ball State special, [including] the values, character, culture and commitment of our graduates.

Coach Michael Lewis, a former Indiana University player and UCLA coach, has returned to his home state to take on the role of head coach of the men’s basketball team. of Ball State. Chapman explains why he chose to come to Ball State.

“It means everything about going back to a state that I grew up in and played the game,” Lewis said. “Honestly, when I was looking at situations, I wanted to find a president who believes in athletics and what it can do for the overall health of the university.”

Lewis is grateful to have known Coach Sallee, a longtime coach and winner of the women’s basketball team. Both coaches use their experience as coaches to help each other. They also shared their expectations for their teams this season.

“We have a very good basketball team this year. I’m not afraid to talk about winning championships with this group. I think we have the talent, we have the spirit, we have better leadership, and we have exciting talent throughout our roster. It’s the deepest group I’ve had,” Coach Sallee said.
