Pernod Ricard Korea, the Korean unit of global wine and spirits company Pernod Ricard, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Dongseo University in Busan to expand its professional training on sustainability. This training, called “Bar World of Tomorrow”, is accessible to students aged 19 and over who specialize in hotel management.
The company has been running the “Bar World of Tomorrow” program since January this year in hopes of establishing a sustainable bar and responsible drinking culture in the national liquor industry. The training program, intended for bartenders and barkeepers aged 19 or over, presents the sustainable and responsible management activities carried out by Pernod Ricard and the relevant cases. Attendees have many opportunities to collaborate on best practices for sustainable bartending that benefits both people and the environment. So far, 177 bar and restaurant professionals have joined the program in Korea as well as thousands of people around the world.
Pernod Ricard Korea expects that the signing of the memorandum of understanding will allow it to extend to Busan the program currently available in Seoul and its surroundings. This would not only benefit the bar industry, but the entire hospitality industry in its ability to practice sustainability. This training will take place at the Centum Campus of Dongseo University in December and will guide students through the concept of sustainability, which is central to establishing an eco-friendly bar culture and expertise associated. It will also serve to highlight the importance of responsible consumption and to share practical advice. Pernod Ricard Korea organized the training of students from the hotel management department of Dongseo University in Busan in April this year and received a lot of positive feedback from the students.
The Pernod Ricard group announced in 2019 its Sustainable Development and Responsibility 2030 roadmap and strives to be sustainable and responsible at every stage of its journey – from grain to glass, including production, delivery and marketing. . In line with this roadmap, Pernod Ricard Korea announced in August a plan to replace all of its company vehicles with environmentally friendly mobility in order to reduce carbon emissions. The company also bans the use of single-use plastics, opting instead for recyclable, reusable and biodegradable materials for all of its marketing and promotional items.
