There’s a new dog training center in Berkley, and they have a unique approach to teaching your pup.
“We don’t train dogs, but we train people who love them, and that means you live with the dog, so it’s really important how you react to the behaviors of the dogs and how you’re going to shape those behaviors. through positive rewards,” Kim Elliot, owner and operator of Zoom Room Training at Berkley, told “Live in the D’s” April Morton.
Berkley is Michigan’s first Zoom Room location, and Elliot says after years of working with dogs, she’s discovered that positive rewards are the most effective way to teach puppies.
“We seek to reward the dog for the behaviors that we like. The more they engage in the behaviors we love, the more they are rewarded. We pay them with a treat and it gives them the focus to pay attention to us, they start to realize, wait a minute, what did I do to get this, I want to repeat this behavior” , Elliot said. She also says that training can start at any age for the dog and should start on day one when you bring your fur baby home. The institution offers many training options at all levels.
