Earlier this year, the lives of Sam Stocking and his diabetic alert dog Korey changed when Stocking posted a video on TikTok that garnered over 12 million views and 2.6 million likes.
Stocking, from California, the woman behind the famous TikToks, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 4 years old. Now 29, Stocking has made a name for herself in Bloomington as the owner of Korey the Kanine dog training.
Being a type 1 diabetic, Stocking struggled when her blood sugar dropped, also known as hypoglycemia.
“There was a time before I had Korey when I was really sick. There were times my husband hardly woke up during the night or he had to force-feed me sugar and it was really. scary, “Stocking said.” So at that point we decided, OK, let’s see if we can get a service dog. “
Stocking called her doctor in Germany, where she and her husband had lived for six years, to ask him to find a dog trainer.
After bringing Korey home from a breeder and training him, the two became inseparable and developed a very unique and special bond.
“I plan my life around him. We have our morning and evening walks and workouts. He’s like my child and my whole life, ”Stocking said.
Aside from being an alert diabetic dog, Korey has also achieved his own celebrity status on TikTok. The pair first went viral when Stocking posted a video of Korey bringing them juice to let him know his blood sugar was low.
The video caused a stir overnight and the account now has more than 515,000 subscribers worldwide. Everyone logs in to see the relationship between the two unfold and to see Korey in his doggy shoes.
Stocking explained what that moment was like for her and not only the shock but also the opportunities that the virus brings.
“It was crazy. I went to a friend’s house and wasn’t really paying attention to my phone. I got home later that day and was blown away; I don’t even know how many notifications I got. It was shocking, but in a good way, ”Stocking said.
Stocking took advantage of his newfound fame and decided to open his own dog training business in Bloomington named Korey the Kanine.
“I really enjoy working with my clients and getting to know their dogs in order to find customizable training plans. My goal is to help these dogs become the best family they can be, ”said Stocking.
Korey the Kanine offers a variety of programs for dog owners, including Diabetic Alert Dog Training, Puppy Training, and Adult Dog Training.
