Kateel temple in Mangaluru holds training program to prepare chemical-free kumkum


Mangalou: To educate people on how to make kumkum without chemicals, Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple organized a training program.

The training program held on Sunday was attended by around 70 people who learned the traditional method of preparing pure Kumkum. This training program is likely to help the people as well as the temple to achieve ‘Atma Nirbharta’, in the production of Kumkum.

“Chemicals are sold on behalf of Kumkum in the market which are harmful to the skin. The temple administration has noted that many devotees bring such chemicals to the temple to offer them to the goddess Durgaparameshwari.

To stop this, the temple first arranged to sell good quality kumkum produced by famous companies that devotees could buy and offer to the goddess. However, the temple administration wanted to go ahead and make people together with the temple ‘Atma Nirbhar’, in the production of Kumkum.

“We had people who agreed to give training. We invited the villagers and interested people to enjoy the event. About 70 people attended the program yesterday,” the hereditary archaka told Deccan Chronicle. Kateel temple, Sri Harinarayanadasa Asranna.

“A member of our staff has been sent to the training program. We want to prepare pure Kumkum for the Goddess so that we are self-reliant. Those interested have received training so that they can prepare at home. giving it to temples can do it. The preparation process has been filmed. It will soon be uploaded to the temple’s YouTube channel. We want this art to be known to all so that people prepare and use pure Kumkum, ” Asranna added.

Kateel is one of the famous temples in Karnataka and attracts hundreds of devotees from various parts of the state and beyond.
