Mother Nature was threatening, but everything was pretty calm at the Bills training camp this morning.

The running game took off for the first time as the defensive backs rebounded.

Let’s dive into the observations.

Run the game Motorin ‘

The Bills offense has been focused on Josh Allen and the passing game until this point in training camp.

Tuesday was the first time the racing game led the way.

Devin Singletary made a handful of substantial wins, going through some big holes, finding the right crack and hitting her hard.

Matt Breida was also able to show his speed and go wild a few times.

Antonio Williams even looked good.

It all happens with Zack Moss leaving training with a hamstring injury and Christian Wade again with a shoulder injury.

As I’ve said since last season, the Bills don’t need to run the ball more, but rather do it more efficiently.

Today was a positive step in the right direction, especially as Singletary is the most productive of the group.

CBs overthrow the script

I was curious how things were going to go today during the 1v1 WR v CB battles after Monday was completely dominated by the offensive guys.

The corners came back strong, led by an interception from Levi Wallace.

Part was definitely better cover, but part wasn’t as sharp as the shots of QBs including Allen.

High school as a whole also had a better performance in teamwork.

Hughes makes his camp debut

It has emerged in recent practice that Jerry Hughes is stepping up his rehabilitation work with coaches in hopes of finally entering the training ground with his teammates.

That moment has come today, with Hughes shifting his physique and being activated from the list of non-football related injuries.

Hughes looked good there, showing a burst during some individual exercises. He even worked in the defensive line rotation during teamwork.

His return will make it even more interesting to see the DL combinations, as players such as Greg Rousseau and AJ Epenesa have seen more time with the veteran.

Dawkins starts working

Monday was the first time we saw Dion Dawkins at training camp.

On Tuesday, the Bills’ left tackle was there again, but this time working with the coaches.

Dawkins has missed the whole camp at this point after testing positive for COVID. He remains on the reserve list, but if his journey is similar to Ike Boettger’s, we could see Dawkins dressing up early next week.

As with Hughes and the DL, Dawkins’ absence allowed others to perform better, with 3rd round pick Spencer Brown leading the way.

While Dawkins may return to training soon, it will be worth watching where his strength and conditioning lie after running out of time.

This could allow Brown, Tommy Doyle, Bobby Hart to continue to get extended opportunities.

Trubisky finally speaks

Even though Mitchell Trubisky signed with the Bills in mid-March, we hadn’t heard from him until today.

The quote that will definitely grab the most attention is Trubisky saying it’s nice to be somewhere people want you here, a clear glimpse into how things turned out in Chicago.

Trubisky explained that he didn’t have as many free agent opportunities as he expected, none of which would have given him a chance to compete for the starting QB position.

That’s where the Bills came in, giving Trubisky a chance to be Allen’s replacement while hopefully learning under the same coaching staff that made Allen an MVP contender who just signed the second-highest contract in NFL history.

While not perfect, Trubisky has certainly had a great time throughout the camp and I think he will only get better as he is under the wing of Brian Daboll and Ken Dorsey.

Injury report

As previously reported, Zack Moss left training with a hamstring injury. Duke Williams also suffers from a hamstring injury.

Stefon Diggs (knee), Vernon Butler (concussion), Forrest Lamp (calf) and Christian Wade (shoulder) all remained out on Tuesday.

Matt Milano (mouth), Jon Feliciano (non-COVID disease), Tommy Doyle (non-COVID disease) and Mitch Morse (rest) were all back today.
